AI Assistant

A writing assistant built into the block editor — select text, pick a preset or write your own instruction, and insert or replace the result. Works with a local model (Ollama) or an API key, your choice.

Where to find it

The ✦ AI button in the editor toolbar. Select some text first if you want the assistant to work on it specifically — otherwise it has the whole entry body as context.

Presets

Eight one-click prompts cover the common cases:

  • Shorten
  • Professional
  • Casual
  • Fix grammar
  • → Deutsch / → English (translate)
  • Summarize
  • SEO desc (meta description, 160 chars max)

Or skip the presets and type your own instruction in the prompt box — "turn this into three bullet points," "add a call to action at the end," anything.

After it generates

Three actions on the result: Insert (adds it to the document), Replace selection (swaps out the text you had selected), Retry (same prompt, new generation — useful when the first pass wasn't quite right).

Providers

Configured once in Settings → AI Assistant, used everywhere in the editor:

ProviderNeedsNotes
Google GeminiAPI key (free tier available)Recommended default — gemini-2.5-flash
OllamaNothing — runs locallyFree, private, no API key, no cloud round-trip. Point it at any Ollama host via ai.ollama_url if it's not on localhost:11434.
Anthropic (Claude)API key
OpenAI (GPT)API key

The API key is stored in the pod's meta table like any other setting — it travels with the pod, so treat a pod containing a real API key the same way you'd treat any other secret-bearing file.
